Lake Oahe Fishing Report

The big lake South of town. This body of water seems to shine in the Spring and Fall of the year. With fluctuating water this Spring it was a bit more of a challenge. There still isn’t any real consistent bite happening in most of the common areas I traditionally find fish. I haven’t had the opportunity to fish it lately as I’ve been focusing on the better bites to the North and North East. The most consistent bite has been near the State Line. The further South you get into North Dakota the better the fishing has been. With the high water it has allowed you attack it like a lake. Pulling crankbaits in slack water generally upstream as there is still some current and fishing jigs on humps and points. There have been some BIG Pike caught the last couple weeks on jigs in some slack water areas as well. Along with them some white bass and a few crappies. Nothing like we had a few years ago but they are still present. I’m hoping with this high water  the crappies had a chance at a tremendous spawn this spring and we will see those rebound. Fishing has been decent on Oahe so far this summer and I would anticipate it to really turn around this fall. I’m really looking forward the jig and crank bite this fall. I’m headed to Sakakawea for a week of trips. Please send me a message with any questions thanks.
